This past Sunday, October 5, 2008, there was a Special Called meeting on
the topic of Amalgamation. During the meeting, the membership presented
many good questions and concerns.
There was a
motion made, seconded, and passed. The membership of Local 2280
approved the Amalgamation. We will be sending a letter to our Region 1
Director Joseph Peters today asking for approval from the UAW
International Executive Board for our Local 2280 to be known as UAW
Amalgamated Local 2280.
It is important to
remember that the Local 2280 membership will have a voice when picking
up other units. The UAW International Constitution states that an
Amalgamated Local Union representing other organized units is subject to
a majority vote of the membership of the added unit and the membership
of the Amalgamated Local Union. Lastly, the additional units can be
added only upon approval from the International Executive Board and our
membership.
As always, Local
2280 will act in the best interest of the membership.
